It’s been nearly a year since it was announced that Warner Bros and Appian Way were working with Twlight director Catherine Hardwicke on a film called The Girl With The Red Riding Hood, a gothic retelling of the classic fairy story. However there’s been little news on the movie since then.
Now the LA Times has been giving an update, and let it be known that Hardwicke is still very keen to get the film made, and that the script is continuing its development in the hands of David Johnson. They also say that while no contract is signed, the studio is looking at Mamma Mia! and Jennifer’s Body star Amanda Seyfried as one of the few actresses they’d be interested in casting in the lead role.
However, it sounds like one of the reason it’s taken so long to get the movie off the ground is that Warner is hoping for the sort of supernatural teen romance that made Tiwlight such a hit, but the script, which is getting high praise in Hollywood, is described as “elevated genre material a la… Shutter Island.” It seems that they’re trying to iron those competing demands out and once they do, filming can commence.
News that the film is definitely moving forward is expected soon.
