Longtime friends Matt Damon and Benn Affleck are getting back into business together with THR reporting that they’re negotiating a first look producing deal at Warner. Although the two haven’t appeared in a film together since their breakout roles in Good Will Hunting (they haven’t written a film together since then either, despite winning an Oscar), but they set up a production company called Liveplanet shortly afterwards, which had a deal at Disney.
However that ran out in 2007, due to the fact the company had few successes. Most of the star’s acting roles didn’t involve Liveplanet and it mainly busied itself with Project Greenlight, a reality TV show designed to help potential filmmakers develop new projects. However none of the movies that resulted were big successes. However Ben Affleck did make his directorial debut, Gone Baby Gone through the Liveplanet and it’s also involved in the upcoming Tron Legacy.
With their new deal at Warner, it’s not known whether Affleck and Damon will take the Liveplanet name with them, or if they’ll set up a completely new production company. At the moment no further details are known, although an announcement of exactly what the duo have up their sleeves is expected once the deal is signed in the next few days. Hopefully it’ll involve them writing another movie together, something which has long been mooted but never happened. If nothing else, it’ll be a good home for Affleck’s burgeoning career as a director, and makes sense for Damon, who’s worked extensively with Warner Bros in the past.
