This is certainly good news for the many fans of the short-lived but much loved TV series Freaks & Geeks, as the main producers of that show, Judd Apatow and Paul Fieg (who also created Freaks & Geeks), are set to reunite for the first time since the series, for a new comedy film.
The currently untitled movie (which used to be called Bridesmaids) will be SNL star Kristen Wiig’s first major bigscreen role (she co-wrote the film as well). The producers are currently keeping the plot secret, other than saying it’ll be about women competing to plan a friend’s wedding party. THR reports that Paul Fieg will direct the movie, while Apatow will produce.
For a series that only made it to 18 episodes, Freaks & Geeks has certainly been influential, as it not only boosted Apatow’s careers, but also gave important early exposure to James Franco, Linda Cardellini, Seth Rogen and Jason Segel. This new movie could also help out Paul Fieg silver screen career, as he’s mainly been directing TV and only made a few unsuccessful films, such as 2006’s Unaccompanied Minors.
