Kevin Costner hasn’t exactly been prolific in the past few years, especially on the directing front. After winning Oscars for his directorial debut, Dances With Wolves, he flopped with The Postman but then returned with the severely under-appreciated Open Range in 2003, but since then nothing, at least behind the camera.
However now Variety reports that he’s got a new directing gig with A Little War Of Our Own. Interestingly, while set during the Second World War, like Kev’s other films as a director, it sounds pretty much a western. The plot centres on a sheriff who must try to keep a town from exploding into violence. It’s described as playing out on an epic canvas, looking at the effects of the war through the eyes of the townpeople.
Costner will play the sheriff, and they’re now casting the other lead role, that of a German U-boat commander. The plan is to start shooting later this year, once Costner’s filled out the cast and funding is completed.
