Here’s news that should come as a shock to absolutely nobody – Sony has said that the planned Spider-man reboot with be in 3D. Variety quotes a Sony spokesmen as saying, “Spider-man is the ultimate summer movie-going experience and we’re delighted the filmmakers are presenting the next installment in 3D.”
Yeah right, as if the studio hadn’t told Marc Webb that’s the way he was going to have to do it since they signed him up.
The pic is set for a July 3rd, 2012 release and, if you haven’t been following the developments over the last few weeks, will take Peter Parker back to the beginning of his story, and see him in high school once more, with suggestions the film is going to be more teen angsty than Sam Raimi’s film. Indeed, with a rumoured budget of only $80 million, they’re certainly not going to be able to afford too much swining through the city and enormous action set-pieces.
Although some have decried the end of Raimi’s reign as king of Spider-man, I’m kind of intrigued to see what direction the reboot takes things, and whether Marc Webb is the man for the job.Filming is due to take place later this year.
