As Dorothy once said in The Wizard Of Oz, “People come and go so quicky around here,” and that’s as true for Hollywood as it is for Oz. The last time there was any news about the movie Drive, it was going to star Hugh Jackman and be directed by Neil Marshall, but it now seems it’s all-change.
Empire spoke to director Nicholas Winding Refn (Bronson) recently, who said, “Hopefully next is a movie with Ryan Gosling at a studio in America. It’s called Drive, and it’s about a stuntman by day, a getaway driver by night.” This probably isn’t a surprsing as it might seem, as Drive, based on the novel by James Sallis, has been slightly stuck in limbo since it was first announced in 2008, and so a complete overhaul of the talent involved is perhaps what’s needed to get the whole thing going again.
However, while Refn told Empire Drive is next, he’s also recently said he expect to make a movie with Harrison Ford very soon, which most expected to be The Dying Of The Light (it’s difficult to imagine Ford taking a supporting role in an noir-ish action movie like Drive). Refn has also got Jeckyll, God Only Forgives and a couple of other projects bubbling, so don’t be shocked if Drive goes back into limbo, although it seems at the moment that’s the movie he wants to do next.
