Ever since they wrote Transformers 2 and Star Trek last year, Hollywood has been desperately lining up to get in the Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman business. They’ve signed up to write and/or produce a slew of movies including Cowboys and Aliens, Matt Helm, Atlantis Rising and The 28th Amendment.
Now they’ve got another new project. Latino Review says they’re working on an adaptation of the graphic novel Locke & Key. The tome tells the story of a family who are reeling from the murder of the father and decide to go and stay at their estate, Lovvecraft. The house is a strange place, with rooms that can’t be unlocked except with special keys. Then the dark supernatural forces at work in the house start talking to the father’s killer, in order to get him to Lovecraft to finish the job.
Sounds pretty cool, although haunted house tales are far more hit and miss than perhaps they ought to be. The book was written by Joe Hill, aka the son of Stephen King. While Locke & Key was initially set up at Dimension, they’ve dropped their option, which has now been picked up by Orci and Kurtman, who are hoping to turn it into a franchise. With the duo’s pedigree, I reckon they’ should be able to turn it into a very entertaining movie.
