With all the hype and massive sales for Dan Brown’s third book about symbologist Robert Langdon, The Lost Symbol, you’d have thought Sony would have started earnestly working on a film version long before now. However they’ve now got their act together and hired British writer Steven Knight to handle the script.
Sony was apparently keen to work with Knight again after buying his screenplay, Pawn Sacrifice, last year. He’s also worked on projects such as Dirty Pretty Things and the upcoming Shutter Island and Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
In case you’ve been living under a rock, The Lost Symbol sees Langdon rushing around Washington DC, decrypting hidden messages in some of the US’s most famous buildings, in order to try and find a hidden Masonic treasure that’s said to give people god-like powers.
As yet, Tom Hanks hasn’t officially committed to reprising the role of Langdon in The Lost Symbol, but following The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, he’s expected to sign on.
