After The Office and Extras, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant look like they’re trying something a little different with Cemetery junction, their first feature film as joint writers/directors. The film is set in England in the 1970s and follows three friends who dream of escaping their small town, and spend their days joking, drinking, fighting and chasing girls. However when one of them gets a new job and bumps into his old high school sweetheart, the gang are forced to make choices that will effect their lives forever. While still funny, the trailer makes the movie look more reflective and nostalgic than Gervais and Merchant’s other projects (although Gervais does have a role in the film, it’s only a fairly small one), although they’ve promised that despite the look of the film, it’s not a depressing and gritty Brit flick. Cemetery Junction hits UK cinemas on April 7th, but click below for the trailer.
