John C Reilly Wants To Talk About Kevin – Actor joins Tilda Swinton in Lynn Ramsay’s film

29th January 2010 By Tim Isaac

A film adaptation of Lionel Shriver’s hit book, We Need To Talk About Kevin, has been in the works for eons, while never actually going into production. Tilda Swinton was announced for the lead role in Lynn Ramsay’s movie last May, but since there’s been little noticeable movement. However now Movieline has revealed who will be starring opposite Swinton in the movie – John C. Reilly.

It’s a return to serious roles for the actor, who’s most recently filmed a succession of comedies, but first made his name in more dramatic roles. Reilly and Swinton will take the parts of an estranged husband and wife who have deal with their son, Kevin, after he goes on a Columbine style killing spree at his local school. The book charts the slow disintegration of the family through a series of letters the wife writes to her husband.

Lynn Ramsay became an indie movie darling with her films Ratcatcher and Morvern Callar, but she hasn’t made a film since 2002. For a while she was attached to The Lovely Bones, before Peter Jackson took over. However while We Need To Talk About Kevin seemed like another project she was working on that was stuck in a holding loop, it’s now all systems go, with shooting expected to start this spring.
