The revamped Dreamworks has booked another new movie on its slate, this time an adaptation of the award-winning documentary, Racing Dreams. Variety reports that Hollywood’s current golden boys, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (who worked on the scripts for both Transformers 2 and Star Trek) will be producing,
Marshall Curry’s documentary follows three young racers who compete in the World Karing Association’s National Pavement Series. Whizzing around in their karts at up to 70mph, the trio aren’t just looking for glory in their karts, but hope that one day it will lead to them competing in NASCAR.
It’s the perfect set-up for a rags-to-riches tale of an underdog achieving their sporting dreams. In fact you can almost imagine the film in your mind already without going to see it (kid from the wrong side of the tracks who seems to have no-hope of winning, snatches a victory and eventually becomes a NASCAR driver).
Although no cast for the movie has been announced, don’t be surprised if Dwayne Johnson eventually takes a role in the flick, as he’s one of the executive producers.
