It seems Tim Burton is thinking about Sleeping Beauty, or at least a film based on the evil fairy from Disney’s classic animated movie, Malificent. AICN reports that Burton is developing the movie at Disney and that rather than animated, it may be live action (or rather a blend of CG and live action, like Alice In Wonderland).
There’s no news on exactly what plot the film might have, but there’s certainly plenty of scope, as in the Disney classic Malificent waltzes into Aurora’s christening and curses her, due to the way she’s been treated by the king and queen. However what indiginities did she suffer? And why are all the other fairies short little dumpy women, while she’s tall and thin? Is she really evil, or did the king and queen make her bitter and twisted? And why spinning wheels, which is a bizarre form of cursing if ever there was one?
It could certainly be an intriguing movie, although it sounds like it’s in the very early stages of development at the moment. Burton is planning to make Dark Shadows next, but it’ll be interesting to see if Malificent makes its past the planning stages.
