Yesterday we reported that Kathryn Bigelow was working on Held By The Taliban, based on David Rohde’s series of articles in the NY Times. However it now appears she’s not the only one who’s interested in ‘Held By The Taliban’, as Terrence Malick (The Thin Red Line, Days Of Heaven) is also sniffing about the film.
According to Risky Biz, while Bigelow has shown interest in the film, she’s not officially attached to the movie, and so the film could eventually go to either director.
You can see why both directors would be interested, as Rohde’s articles detailed his incredible experience of being kidnapped while on his way to interview a Taliban commander in Afghanistan. He was held for over seven months, coming to learn a lot more about the Taliban, their aims and motivation, while living in constant fear for his life.
Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall are on board as producers, although there’s no production schedule set as yet. They certainly seem to have a bounty of riches on the directing front though.
