With the endless nuggets of info coming out about the planned Ghostbusters 3, director Ivan Reitman (helmer of parts 1 and 2) has been busily keeping us on the edge of our seat as to whether he would direct or not. Initially he didn’t seem interested, then he started to say he wouldn’t decide until he’d seen a script, while others suggested he’d already pretty much signed up.
Now he’s been talking to MTV Movies and made everything clear. When asked whether he would be returning to the franchise to direct Ghostbusters 3, he gave them an unequivocal, “Yes”.
Apparently a second draft of the script by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg has recently been completed, although he didn’t want to get too specific about it. When asked about Sigourney Weaver’s recent comments that it would involve her son from Ghostbusters 2, now all grown up and one of a new band of Ghostbusters, and that Bill Murray’s character would be a ghost, Reitman merely said, “I’m not going to comment on what’s in the script and on what Sigourney may or may not have said. She’s been so busy on Avatar, I’ve not been able to find her. There’s some very cool things in the new draft, let’s just put it that way.”
Apparently Reitman hopes to shoot Ghostbusters 3 this year, which gives weight to previous rumours of a 2011 release.
