It’s a couple of months now since it was announced that martial arts star Gina Carana would headline Steven Soberbergh’s Knockout, about a black ops security operative who’s convinced she’s been betrayed by her boss and goes on the run to prove her suspicions are true.
Taking the lead role in an all-out action spy thriller for one of the world’s top directors is a tough ask for someone who’s never made a film before, but Variety has announced that Carana will now have some more experience company in the film, in the form of Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender and Michael Douglas (deals have closed for the first two, while Douglas is still in talks). The Playlist suggests that Dennis Quaid will also be in the movie.
However what no one’s official saying is what roles all these men will play in the film, although it appears Douglas is a government authority figures, Fassbender and another actor will be part of a commando unit, one of whom has betrayed Carana, while McGregor will be the head of a Blackwater-type private military company.
Filming on Knockout is due to start next month.
