The first images have arrived from the upcoming action-drama Eagle of the Ninth, which stars Channing Tatum as a young centurion in second century Britain, who’s sent from Rome to work out how the entire Ninth Legion disappeared in the mountains of Scotland. Along with his slave, Esca (Jamie Bell), he crosses Hadrian’s Wall and is confronted by the hostile Picts. Neverthless he must work out what happened to the legion and recover their legendary emblem, the Eagle of the Ninth.
The film co-stars Donald Sutherland and Mark Strong, with direction by Last King of Scotland and State Of Play helmer, Kevin MacDonald. Eagle Of The Ninth is due out next year, where it’ll face competition from Neil Marshall’s Centurion, which draws from the same legend of the lost Ninth Legion, although Marshall’s film is about the Legion itself while MacDonald’s movie concentrates on the aftermath (although it should be pointed out that modern historians don’t think the Ninth Legion ever disappeared in Scotland at all).
Now the first images from the film have turned up on Yahoo Movies. You can see some of them below or head over to Yahoo for a couple more.
