Marvel certainly seem to be making good on their promise for a whole slew of superhero movies leading up to the release on The Avengers in 2012. Although the initial plans had The First Avenger: Captain America hitting cinemas in the same year as The Avengers, although a few months beforehand as a sort of warm-up to the superhero smackdown, it’ll now be out in July 2011. And to hit that release date, director Joe Johnston says the he plans to start shooting the movie next June.
It’ll mean we get both Captain America and Thor in 2011, although the latter will be coming a couple of months before the former, in May. Thor is due to start filming next month, with Kenneth Branagh at the helm.
Johnston doesn’t give much info on the film, other than telling Fangoria he plans to start shooting in June. They spoke to him about his upcoming Wolfman movie from the art department of Captain America, which suggest pre-production is pushing forward at a decent pace.
At the moment no cast has been announced for the The First Avenger: Captain America, although as with Thor, expect a drip feed of names to be announced over the coming months while they prepare for the shoot.
