Earlier this year, all movie roles had to go to Chris Pine following his success in Star Trek. Now that he’s filled up his diary for the next couple of years, Taylor Lautner has stepped in to take over as the hot young thing everyone wants to cast. Last week it was announced that he was starring in an action thriller called Cancun, he’s also attached to the big screen version of Max Steel, and now E! Online says he’s being lined up for a remake of Vision Quest?
The original is a 1985 movie starring Matthew Modine as a young high school wrester who sets out to attain a championship no one thinks he can reach. Along the way he falls for an older women (well, older than him anyway, she’s 21), who rents a room in his father’s boarding house. It’s not a great movie, and the story is so generic that it’s difficult to see this as one of those remakes where they can improve on what went before, but hey, when’s that stopped Hollywood?.
With Taylor’s buffed up body and karate skills, it’s another chance to show off his action prowess while chucking in a love story as well, to keep the Twilight fans happy. As his character in Vision Quest goes for an older woman, the Twilight moms should be ecstatic (although as has been pointed out by others, if you had a bunch of middle-aged men running around after teenage girls, they’d be called perverts, but nobody seems to mind 40-something woman lusting after the boys from Twilight).
It certainly seems the makers of Twilight are keen to keep Taylor in the family, as it’s one of the production companies behind the franchise, Temple Hill Entertainment, that is developing both Cancun and Visione Quest.
