Taylor Lautner must be thanking his lucky stars. This time last year, Summit was inches away from kicking him off the Twilight franchise and going with someone more bankable and beefier to play werewolf Jacob in New Moon. However Taylor lobbied hard, spent months in the gym packing on pounds of muscle and won back the role.
Now Taylor is a star and Summit, the company behind Twilight, is so pleased with him that they’ve bought Eric Champnella and Grant Thompson spec script, Cancun, for the 17-year-old to star in. Lautner’s even set up his own production company with his dad, which will be involved with making the movie.
The Mexican resort of Cancun is best known as the place where thousands of American students head during sprink break, but this film plans to show the dark side, with Lautner playing a college kid who heads to the town for fun, but ends up having to save his friends when they are taken hostage by a drug cartel. THR reports that the script is designed to take advantage of Taylor’s martial arts skills.
So while there’s no werewolves in this one, it seems Taylor is planning on being an all-out action star!
