Until a couple of months ago, everything seemed to be moving along nicely with the comedy Neighbourhood Watch, with Will Ferrell attached to star and David Dobkin directing. However they both abruptly quit the movie, with rumours that it was because they’d fallen out with one another.
While that could have spelled the end for the film, 20th Century Fox is now sniffing around Peter Segal, the director of Get Smart, 50 First Dates, Anger Management and The Longest Yard. Variety reports that the two sides started talks about the movie when a gap came up in Segal’s schedule, due to Warner postponing a planned Get Smart sequel.
The film itself is about a man who moves into a community and joins the neighbourhood watch, only to discover the organisation is far more supernatural than he’d realised, and that’s there’s a major conspiracy going on.
However even if Segal does come on-board, that leaves the film without a star. Although as Will Ferrell is starting to annoy a lot of people, maybe they should just cast an unknown in the lead and them market the film with the tagline ‘This comedy does not star Will Ferrell”. I’m sure people would flock.
