Although it’s been mooted for a while that Bryan Singer has been mulling over a return to the X-Men franchise, there’s been a lot of speculation over whether it was really going to happen, and if it did, what film it would be. Well, now Singer has stepped forward to clear things up a bit.
While talking to journalists on the red carpet at the Avatar premiere, he’s said that, “I just yesterday signed a deal to do an X-Men First Class Origins movie, which is kind of cool.” So it seems it’s official as it came from the man himself. However with the director making Jack The Giant Killer first, we may have to wait a year or two for his new mutant flick.
The idea of a First Class film has been around for a while, and was introduced during Patrick Stewart’s brief appearance in Wolverine, which showed how a bunch of young misfit mutants got to Xavier’s school, years before the events in the first three X-Men movies. The script for First Class is currently being handled by The OC creator Josh Schwartz, although knowing Singer, it’ll go through a few more hands before he starts shooting (perhaps being handed off to Usual Suspects and Valkyrie screenwriter Christopher MacQuarrie, who’s already working on Wolverine 2).
Fox hasn’t confirmed Singer’s involvement in First Class yet, but as we’ve got it from the horse’s mouth, it appears to be true.
