You’d have to think twice about signing up to play Harvey Weinstein in a screen adaptation of Peter Biskind’s wonderful book, Down & Dirty Pictures. While the book is about the success of independent cinema in the early 1990s, it largely sees then-Miramax head-honcho Weinstein running around blowing his top at a moment’s notice and making everybody’s life miserable.
While it’s been said he’s now calmed a lot, you’d still need to have some balls to play Harvey on the silver screen. According to Screen Daily, Vincent D’Onofrio is being courted to do just that. He’s been lined up to star as Weinstein in a planned film, Down & Dirty, which Yamani Pictures is hoping to produce, based on Biskind’s book.
With the book covering the birth of Tarantino as a filmmaking talent, and how Sundance went from Robert Redford’s personal vanity project to the premier showcase for independent film, there should be plenty mooe interesting roles to be filled as the movie gets closer to the screen. However with the Weinstein brothers presented as leaving a trail of carnage in their wake as they turned independent cinema on its head, D’Onofrio definitely has the plum role, even if he’s going to have to avoid Harvey for the rest of his life.
