Is Kevin Smith Gonna Cop Out? – New ‘A Couple Of Dicks’ title may have leaked out

14th December 2009 By Tim Isaac

A couple of days ago, Kevin Smith saidthat while his next movie had a new title that everyone was happy with, he coudn’t say what it was. However it now seems the name has leaked out.

The buddy cop comedy, starring Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan, was originally called A Couple Of Dicks, but as the studio knew marketing a film with a title like that would be difficult, due to US newspapers and TV networks being skittish about anything suggestive, it got changed to the spectacularly unimaginative working title of A Couple Of Cops, before finding a new name that Smith isn’t allowed to say yet.

Well, TheFilmStage did a little digging and they think they’ve found the new name of Kevin Smith’s film. As the director has already said a trailer was coming at Christmas with Sherlock Holmes, they discovered that on the Warner Bros. exhibitor website, there was a list of new trailers and the films they would be attached to. One of those new trailers, which will indeed be attached to Sherlock Holmes, is a movie called Cop Out, which appears to Smith’s new flick. Incidentally it looks like we’ll also get a new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Inception with Holmes as well.

You can certainly see why Kevin Smith likes the new title, as after having to dump A Couple Of Dicks, Cop Out is a pretty good name. While the new title has yet to be officially confirmed, it certainly seems as if this is what Smith’s movie, due out in February, will be called.
