Over the years Cameron Diaz has had plenty of success with knockabout comedies, from The Mask to There’s Something About Mary. While this year’s she’s been comparatively serious with My Sister’s Keeper and The Box, it looks like we could be getting some new comic fourishes from Ms. Diaz soon.
Variety reports that she’s signed up to star in Bad Teacher, written by The Office scribes, Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky. In it she’ll play a foul-mouthed middle-school teacher who’s a complete gold-digger. After getting dumped by her boyfriend, she competes with a colleague for the affections of the school’s most perfect teacher.
Diaz as a foul-mouther, gold-digging teacher – we like the film already.
Production is set to begin in the spring, once Diaz has finished up work on Shrek Forever After, Knight And Day and The Green Hornet, which are all currently at varying stages of production. Jake Kasdan (Walk Hard) will direct the film, although as yet there’s no news on when it might hit cinemas.
