You’d think that with the rights to the Terminator franchise currently on the block and the company that currently owns them in bankruptcy, people might be putting any plans for further films in the series on hold, but apparently Terminator: Salvation director, McG, still hasn’t given up hope he’ll be able to make parts five and six.
During a Salvation BD-Live web chat between the director and viewers around the world, he expressed interest in continuin the story with another two films, and while he was somewhat shy about revealing his plans, he did say that Sarah Connor would appear in the next one, even though he wasn’t sure how he’d pull that off. Gizmodo did a commentary on McG’s commentary, so if you want to see a blow-by-blow account of what McG had to say, that’s the place to head. Apparently while the director admitted that “I’m disappointed in myself that I couldn’t make the best movie,” he then went on to say that he reckons he can make a better Terminator movie than the first two – now that’s self belief for you!
When Terminator: Salvation was initially announced it was said to be the start of a planned new trilogy, but with the first film sending the company that made it into bankruptcy, it’s certainly huge optimism on McG’s part that he thinks he’ll still be allowed to continue with his plans. At the moment the sale of the franchise rights is due to be concluded in February, so there’s unlikely to be any further movement on sequels until then, although at least it gives McG another couple of months of thinking maybe he can continue with his hoped-for trilogy.
