The Tobey Maguire produced country singing drama, Love Don’t Let Me Down, has locked down its cast and is getting ready to start shooting in January. Variety reports that it’s been announced that Gwyneth Paltrow has officially signed to headline the film, and will play a fallen country singer in the movie.
She’ll be joined by Garett Hedlund (Friday Night Lights, Tron: Legacy) as a young singer/songwriter who gets involved with Paltrow’s character, while real life country superstar Tim McGraw will play her husband and manager. In the film he sets up a career resurrection tour alongside Hedlund’s character and a beauty queen-turned-singer, to be played by Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester.
As expected the romantic entanglements between the four threatens to destroy everything, while old demons surface.
Although Paltrow’s shown she can sing before, whether she’s got the pipes to play a full-on country singer is yet to be seen. It’ll also be interesting to see both Hedlund and Meester having a warble. The film, written and directed by Shana Feste, should be out sometime towards the end of next year.
