You’d certainly have to think twice about taking a role on a supposedly ‘cursed’ movie, where the last person who tried to play the part suffered an injury so severe that the entire production was abandoned a couple of weeks into shooting (freak storms and budget problems didn’t help either). However a couple of months ago, director Terry Gilliam told Empire that he’d found his new lead actor for the resurrected The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, although he wouldn’t say who it was.
Well, someone’s come out to say that he’s the man Gilliam is after. So who may be taking over from Jean Rochefort (who played Quixote in the doomed attempt to bring the story to the screen in 2000)? Well it’s Robert Duvall. The screen legend has been talking to Collider about his upcoming film Crazy Heart, and told them that if Gilliam can get the money together, he’ll be the new Don Quixote.
The Man Who Killed Don Quixote is about a moden day screenwriter who finds himself unstuck in time, and unwittingly travels between modern day London and 17th century La Mancha, where he participates in the adventures of Don Quixote, who mistakes him for Sancho Panza.
Take a look below to see the part of the Collider interview where Duvall talks about the possibility of him joining The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. If he does end up playing the role, we reckon he’ll be a great fit.
