Although it hasn’t been officially confirmed anywhere, Pajiba reports that I Am Legend director, Francis Lawrence, has picked up another comic book property to add to his ever-growing list of movies he’s thinking of making. A couple of weeks ago he became attached to Sgt. Rock, the DC Comics World War II hero who’s going futuristic for a big screen update, and now it looks like he may be thinking of adapting the graphic novel, In The Small.
The movie rights to Michael Hague’s book were purchased a couple of years ago by Akiva Goldsman, but there’s been little movement on a film version since then. The story is about a bizarre explosion that shrinks all humans to six inches in height, but leaves everything else unaffected. This sudden shift in humanity results in a new social order emerging, that takes into account the fact people are no longer at the top of the food chain. However soon an ever more dangerous threat emerges.
Although it’s a great premise, it’s easy to see the logistical challenges of creating the film’s miniature world, making In The Small a difficult movie to get off the ground. The film is said to be set-up at Warner, with Akiva Goldsman producing and first-time screenwriter Laura Harrington writing the script.
As we said, there’s been no official confirmation of this as yet, but if true, it could certainly make an interesting movie.
