It seems Kull The Conqueror may be coming out of mothballs for a new movie. Originally created in 1929 by pulp author Robert E. Howard, the muscle-bound warrior was born in Atlantis before it sank into the sea, getting into all sorts of fantasy adventures involving sorcerors, monsters and barbarian armies.
The similarities to Conan aren’t a coincidence as Howard also created that character (with his work on Kull serving as the inspiration). In fact, when a third Conan movie was cancelled, the script was adapted and became the 1997 Kull The Conqueror movie, starring Kevin Sorbo (which was, incidentally, dreadful).
With Paradox Entertainment owning the rights to Howard’s works, they’re keen to exploit them all they can, and already have new Conan and Solomon Kane movies in the works. Now French website fantasy.fr reports that Paradox have started work on a new Kull movie, which will hopefully be a bit better than the 1997 film.
This fits with plans announced earlier this year in which Paradox signed a deal with Dark Horse Comics to publish new books and graphic novels based on Howard’s characters, with the hope these fresh titles would increase interest in Conan, Kull and co. ahead of new live-action films. There’s no news on when the Kull movie may be coming, although we wouldn’t be surprised if it turned out Paradox wait to see how Conan does before they officially give this one the greenlight.
