It’s amazing how a single film can transform a company’s fortunes in Hollywood. This time last year, Summit was just a small company that had been involved with a few successes for the major studios, such as American Pie and Vanilla Sky, but by making Twilight independently of the studio system and distributing it themselves in the US, they’ve pushed themselves into another realm completely.
Variety reports that they’re now setting up The Cold Light Of Day, based on a script Scott Wiper and John Petro, which is about a family who get kidnapped while on holiday in Spain. The only family member not taken then has only hours to find them and also uncover a government conspiracy that holds the key to why they were taken in the first place, and the secrets his father has been keeping.
Production is due to start in Spain next Spring, although as yet, no director or cast has been announced for the film.
It all sounds a bit Taken meets The Bourne Identity meets The Da Vinci Code, which could be a potent mix. Alternately it could just be rubbish, but The Cold Light Of Day has enough promise to ensure this is one to keep an eye on.
