While the Western world has been suspicious of anything French-Canadian since they gave the world Celine Dion, it seems Hollywood is still quite interested in what’s going on in the environs of Quebec, as Sony has bought the rights to the comedy, De Pere En Flic, which became the highest grossing French-language movie in Quebec’s history when it was released in the summer.
According to Screen International, producing partners Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy will team up with the writer/director of the original, Emile Gaudreault, to develop the American remake, which is currently going under the title, Fathers And Guns.
De Dere En Flic is about father and son policemen, who hate each other but are assigned to infiltrate an outdoor adventure group-therapy camp, which is only open to dads and their kids. They’re hoping to get info from the lawyer of a biker gang, that has kidnapped a fellow police officer, but inevitably the father and son end up learning about each other along the way.
As long as they get the right cast, it’s a great idea for a comedy, and with Marhsall and Kennedy on-board, they’ll hopefully resist the urge to make it too slapstick and silly.
