A month or so ago, Lionsgate announced that they were making a movie called The Vatican Tapes, although at the time, they didn’t release any more information on the movie, other than it was going to be about something vaguely supernatural.
Well, now more information has emerged, including the news the James Marsh, helmer of the Oscar-winning documentary, Man On Wire (as well as the brilliant Wisconsin Death Trip), has signed on to direct the movie. It’s not his first dip into fiction, as he also directed the 2005 Gael Garcial Bernal film,The King, as well as the 1980 portion of TV’s Red Riding Trilogy.
The film itself is described as a supernatural thriller and will centre on events that unfold after a tape gets leaked from the Vatican displaying an exorcism that goes wrong. It’s still not a huge amount of info, but Marsh is a pretty astute guy, so hopefully The Vatican Tapes will offer a bit more of substance than the 1,000s of other supernatural thriller that come out each year.
There’s no news yet on when the film might arrive in cinemas.
