Few films in recent years have catapulted virtually everyone involved in them into the movie star stratosphere like The Hangover has. Since the movie’s release, Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis have been filling up their schedules with all sorts of plum roles.
Cooper is currently filming The A-Team and now it’s been announced that when that’s finished that he’ll be moving on to Dark Fields. Variety reports that he’s signed up for the suspense thriller, which will be directed by Neil Burger (The Illusionist). Described as a ‘what if?’ story, Dark Fields is about the invention of a designer drug that allows you to to access the full capacity of your brain. Cooper will play a down-and-out writer who gets hold of the drug, but inevitably discovers that his newfound intelligence and success comes with a downside, when mysterious forces starting to prusue him.
Based on a novel by Alan Glynn, the screenplay has been written by Hairspray’s Leslie Dixon, with plans to start shooting next spring.
Films that sound like an extended episode of The Twilight Zone seem quite popular at the moment. The one has a okay premise, although it’s easy to imagine that it might get rather silly. Cooper is a charismatic figure though, so hopefully he can pull it off and continue his ‘don’t do drugs’ message after The Hangover.
