Overture Films has announced that principal photography has begun in New Mexico on Let Me In, Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) adaptation of the hit Sewdish vampire flick (and book), Let The Right One In. There are also a few new name names added to the cast list, with Elias Koteas (Shutter Island), Cara Buono (The Sopranos) and Sasha Barrese (The Hangover) joining the movie.
In case you haven’t seen the original (and if you haven’t, go remedy that now), it’s not your normal bloodsucker movie. Let The Right One In is a creepy coming of age tale that sees a bullied young boy befriending a vampire girl, and having to come terms the that girl he’s fallen for isn’t like most people and needs human blood to survive. It sure ain’t Twilight.
The makers of the American remake have promised that the English language version will pay homage to the Swedish movie, while forging “A unique identity for Let Me In, placing it firmly in an American context.” Kodi Smit McPhee (The Road) and Chloe Moretz (Kick-Ass) have previously been announced to play the lead roles of Owen and his vampire friend Abby, while Richard Jenkins will play Abby’s guardian, who secures blood for her. The new cast members will see Koteas playing a policeman, Buono as Owen’s mother and Barrese as Virginia.
Expect the movie in cinemas late next year
