Emmanuelle Chriqui (Entourage) and Val Kilmer have joined the cast of Renny Harlin’s war-torn drama, Georgia. THR reports that Kilmer will play a jornalist sent to cover last year’s assault by Gerogia on the Russian-backed Republic of South Ossetia.
He and his cameraman get caught in the crossfire and become entangled with a Georgian doctoral student, to be played by Chriqui. Andy Garcia will also be in the movie as Georgian president, Mikheil Saakashvili.
Although Die Hard 2 and Cliffhanger director Renny Harlin has had a pretty poor track record in the last few years, it appears he’s trying something a little different this time around, with a movie that could bring attention to a severely under-reported war, which left over 100,000 people homeless. The makers stated aim is to show what a bad thing war is, rather than taking sides on whether Russian or Georgia was in the right.
