For a while it seemed like The Office star, Steve Carell, was going to become a comedy superstar, however since the success of The 40-Year-Ols Virgin and Little Miss Sunshine, he’s made a few dodgy movie choices, such as Evan Almighty and Dan In Real Life. He’ll therefore be hoping to get back on track with a new golfing comedy.
THR reports that Warner Bros. has just bought the rights to sportswriter Ricky Reilly’s book, Missing Links, with Carell loosely attached to play the main role in the movie. The book is about a group of bumbling golfers who get fed up playing at a rundown municipal course in a working class Boston neighbourhood, and concoct a series of schemes in order to be able to play at a nearby elite club.
It seems there’s a bit of a resurgence for golfing films at the moment, as Tin Cup director Ron Shelton is also planning a new one, Q School, in which Tim Allen and Dennis Quaid will play golfers in the tournament that decides who gets to play on the PGA tour.
Carell meanwhile will next be seen in Date Night and Dinner For Schmucks, while he’s also on board for a a sequel to Get Smart.
