Although I feel they may have difficulty finding the funding to get it in front of the cameras, Spice Factory and Persistent Entertainment have announced that they’re developing a big screen version of the graphic novel, Ring of Roses.
Set in an alternate version of modern London, the 144 page graphic novel by Dan Petrou and John Watkins envisions a world in which the church rules England with an iron hand, but is starting to lose its grip. Six prominent priests are murdered and while investigating, flamboyant lawyer Samuel Waterhouse uncovers a vast conspiracy involving the release of the bubonic plague as a cover-up to political assassination and government takeover.
It’s difficult to see the movie being made with the religious angle left intact, which may be why Variety is already reporting that the plot is about the murder of people in a ‘secretive society’, which is sort of true but completely ignores the critical church themes of the graphic novel.
If this one does get made, it could certainly make an interesting movie, although as mentioned, it may have a few problems getting funding.
