So we can cover as many films as possible, we thought we’d give you these quick updates on some of today’s smaller film announcements…
For a while a new live-action/CG Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie has been on the cards, and it now appears that the film will be made by children’s channel Nickelodeon. They’ve just paid $60 million for the rights to everything TMNT, buying the super-successful franchise off the Mirage Group and 4Kids Entertainment. While it was previously suggested the new live action film would arrive as early as next year, it appears Nickelodeon is hoping to get it on cinema screens in 2012, with a new CG cartoon series coming at the same time. It appears the same team that were working on the movie for Mirage will now make it for Nickelodeon. (Source: Variety)
Although Bruce Willis has been attached to the videogame adapatation Kane & Lynch for quite a while now, it appears that he’s now officially signed onto the movie. In an interview for GameDaily, producer Adiran Askarieh said, “Kane and Lynch will start filming in March of 2010. Bruce Willis will star as Kane, and we’re about to start casting Lynch.” However while the game is about a convicted murderer and another inmate who get kidnapped from prison, Askarieh describes the film as “a great buddy action movie” about a mercenary teaming up with a schizophrenic psychopath to save his wife and daughter. We’re sure you’ve been waited with baited breath to hear whether they’re making a sequel to Stomp The Yard. Well, they are. It’ll be called Stomp The Yard 2: Homecoming and will directed by Rob Hardy (who produced the first film). The star of the original, Columbus Short, is presently in talks to reprise his role as master street dancer, DJ. The movie is due to start filming next month. (Source: THR)
Collin Wilcox Paxton, who played the white-trash girl who accused a black man of raping her in the classic 1962 film To Kill a Mockingbird, has died aged 74. Although she passed away on October 14th, the news has only just come to light. Primarily a stage actress, Mockingbird was Paxton’s screen debut, and she later made guest appearaces on numerous TV shows. (Source: THR)
Derek Mears, best known as the new face of Jason in the Friday The 13th remake, has signed on to star in Predators, the third film in the Predator franchise, which will start filming imminently. It appears that Mear will be playing one of the alien creatures in the film, who are hunting a group of humans they dropped in the wilderness on their homeworld. (Source: ShockTilYouDrop)
