As she could almost trademark the words ‘Hollywood’s sexiest star’, it’s little surprise that Angelina Jolie’s name would come up in connection with a major movie set in the world of fashion. Variety reports that she’s in talks to join the cast of Gucci, which Ridley Scott is due to direct.
The Wanted star is up for the role of a femme fatale, in a film set to capture the glamour of the Gucci family in the 1970s and 1980s. However squabbling amongst the clan hobbled the fashion label, until Maurizio Gucci came out on top in a power struggle. He was then gunned down in 1995, with Jolie in talks to play his ex-wife Patrizia Reggiano, who was locked up in prison for plotting his murder, although she’s always said she acted against her will.
It’s certainly a tale with plenty of passion and intrigue, as the Gucci’s are infamous for their arguments, in-fighting and scandals, and of course there’ll be lots of room for pretty frocks. At the moment no one has signed up to play Maurizio, although Scott has apparently approached Leonardo DiCaprio about the role.
Filming on the movie should hopefully get underway next year, although the script still isn’t ready, with a new writer being brought in to rework Charles Randolph’s take on the tale. Hopefully Scott will actually get around to making the movie this time, as he’s been developing it since 2006, and still has many more films in the pipeline.
