It won’t be long until the only way to make it in the entertainment biz is to have started out as a foetus on the Disney Channel. According to Variety, the latest star from the House Of Mouse who wants to follow in Zac Efron, Vaness Hudgens, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and Cristina Aguilera’s footsteps, is Selena Gomez.
The 17-year-old, who’s built a huge fanbase through her Disney Channel show, The Wizards Of Waverly Place, is attached to star in What Boys Wants, a pitch that New Line has just bought from Step Up 3D writers, Amy Andelson and Emily Meyer. From the title and the plot, it sounds pretty much like this will be a teen version of the Mel Gibson movie, What Women Want, as Gomez will play a girl who can hear what men think. As What Women Want is still one of the highest grossing romantic comedies of all time (despite being rubbish), it does kind of make sense to do a teen take.
However it should be added that despite sounding ridiculously similar to the Mel Gibson movie, this isn’t a sequel or spin-off, and I’m sure Paramount, the makers of What Women Want, will see it that way too, and won’t have consulted their lawyers as soon as they heard about the film.
