Although we’ve found it a bit difficult to find any corroboration, AintItCool is reporting that according to actor Matthias Schweighofer, Jude Law and Robert De Niro have been cast in Thor. The news apparently came in an interview with the Valykyrie actor in the German edition of GQ, where he says he’s up for a role in the film, and also mentions that Law and De Niro have joined the cast.
Although we can’t find this interview, AintItCool seems pretty sure, and there is some sort of logic, as all of the actors have worked with Branagh before. Schweighofer appeared alongside him in Valkyrie, while De Niro starred in the Branagh directed Frankenstein and Law was in Sleuth. It’s a bit difficult to see who they’d play though, as most of the main roles have now been filled by the likes of Chrim Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki) and Natalie Portman (Jane Foster).
It’s possible however that Branagh wants some weighty names to cameo as the major Norse gods, who throw Thor out of Valhalla and send him to Earth as punishment, where he end up trying to stop Loki from raising an army and taking over the planet.
However without more evidence, at the moment I’d file Law and De Niro appearing in Thor in the rumour file, although it’ll certainly be interesting if it does turn out to be true.
