A while ago it was announced that Jason Statham has agreed to appear in The Mechanic, the new movie from Con Air and Tomb Raider director, Simon West. However since then things have gone a bit quiet on the film. However Variety is now reporting that Ben Foster and Donald Sutherland have now signed onto the movie.
The Mechanic is about a retired hitman, to be played by Statham, who’s trying to live a quiet live. However his peace is shatter by the arrival of young man (Foster), who wants to become his apprentice in all things assassin-like. Sutherland will play Foster’s father and Statham’s handler.
With an earlier synopsis suggesting that the apprentice’s father was dead, it appears Sutherland’s character may be up to something dodgy in The Mechanis, but we’ll have to wait to see the movie to find out. Filming is due to start soon.
We’re always interested in seeing what Ben Foster is doing, and Jason Statham’s normally a lot of fun, although we’re hoping hoping Simon West can recapture some of his filmmaking verve, as his last theatrical film, When A Stranger Calls, was bloody awful.
