A couple of months ago it was announced that Simon Pegg had signed up to star as one half of the infamous duo, Burke & Hare, in a new movie about the men who killed people in order to sell their bodies to Scottish medical schools. At the time there was much speculation about who would play the other murderer, with many wondering whether this would be another chance for Pegg to team up with Nick Frost on screen.
However, Twitch is reporting that director John Landis has announced that Pegg’s partner in crime will be none other than the newly departed Doctor himself, David Tennant. While there’s the chance his name is only being bandied about because it makes sense for him to be linked to the movie at some point (he’s Scottish, popular and the right age to play opposite Pegg), it has to be said that it is extremely good casting, and it does seem the news has come from the director himself.
Even if it turns out to be somebody entirely different who joins Pegg in the movie, the most exciting thing is that Burke & Hare is due to be John Landis’ first theatrical film in over a decade. Since Blues Brothers 2000 he’s mainly worked in TV, but anything that brings the American Werewolf director back to cinemas has to be good news.
