There’s a lot of people who are keen to see whatever Buffy creator Joss Whedon gets involved in, but it looks like you’re going to have to wait a bit longer for the horror/thriller, Cabin In The Woods, which Whedon co-wrote with Drew Goddard (who’s also directing).
The film completed shooting in May and was going to be released in the spring, but now Shock Til You Drop is reporting that it won’t actually hit cinemas until 2011. MGM has pushed the movie back so that they can convert it to 3D, hoping to cash-in on the current vogue for all things horror-related and three dimensional at the cinema – My Bloody Valentine and The Final Destination in particular have benefitted immensely from having a 3D version.
While converting movies to 3D in post production rarely works brilliantly, in the long term it probably makes sense financially. It also means that cash strapped MGM, who barely have enough cash to operate at the oment, don’t have to shell out the cash for the film’s release yet.
At the moment the movie is set for January 14th, 2011 in the US, but no new UK date has yet been announced.
