For a while now Charlize Theron has been attached to The Tourist, a remake of the 2005 French thriller, Anthony Zimmer, about on American tourist who, on behalf of Interpol, goes undercover to entrap a former lover who’s a suspected global criminal.
However, THR reports that Theron has left the project and the producers are now in talks with Angelina Jolie to replace her. In fact it’s not been a good week for the people behind The Tourist at all, as they’ve also lost their director, Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day helmer Bharat Nalluri. They producers are currently hoping they can get Jolie to sign on the dotted line and then find a top class director to pair with her.
It’s not the first problems the film has had on its journey to the screen, as Tom Cruise spent quite a while thinking about playing the male lead in the movie, but he finally passed on the project, and his role has gone to Sam Worthington (although at this rate, Worthington will also probably bow out).
The people behind The Tourist are still hoping to start shooting the movie at the beginning of next year, although they’ll have to get all their ducks in a row quickly if that’s going to happen.
