Whenever the producers of the X-Men movies are asked about whether director Bryan Singer might return to the franchise, they make some vague yet hopeful sounding comments, which leave the possibility open, but fall far short of giving us hope that it will actually happen. However now the X-Men and X2 director himself has confirmed that he’s been talking to Fox about making another mutant movie.
THR quotes him at the Pusan Film Festival saying that he’s “still looking to possibly returning to the X-Men franchise. I’ve been talking to Fox about it.”
Although he doesn’t say which of the many millions of X-Men movies that are in the works that he’s talking about (including Wolverine 2, Deadpool and X-Men: First Class), reading between the lines it sounds like he means a proper sequel to X-Men: The Last Stand (which he stepped aside from directing to work on Superman Returns). This fits with the fact that X-men producer Lauren Schuler Donner has recently started talking about an X4 and saying it was at an incredibly early stage.
Even if Singer does decide to go back to X-Men, don’t expect the new film for a few years yet, as he’s planning to make Jack The Giant Killer next, and also has movies like Excalibur and Battlestar Galactica in the works.
