If ever a man needed some Prozac it’s Lars Von Trier. He’s created some of the most fascinating but depressing films ever made, such as Breaking The Waves, Dancer In The Dark and his recent Antichrist. Now THR reports that his next film will go sci-fi, but don’t get your hopes up that it’ll be more cheerful than his earlier films, as the title is Planet Melancholia.
It’s described as a psychological disaster movie, which to be honest wouldn’t be a bad description of most of his films, whether they’re sci-fi or not. When asked about the plot of his movie, all he said was, “No more happy endings!” although we’re presuming he was having a joke, as going by his previous movies he doesn’t actually know what a happy ending is.
The only other info about the film was a picture on the press release which showed an enormous planet looming very close to Earth. Sounds like he’s planning to take his unique brand of misery global, and it has been confirmed that the film will use plenty of special effects.
The $7 million dollar movie will begin shooting next year, so at least we’ve got a bit of time before he tries to make us suicidal again.
