It’s likely that her star will explode early next year, when Mia Masikowska appears in the tile role of Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland (and she’s also in Hillary Swank’s Amelia Earhart biopic, Amelia). However she’s already lined up her next project, which will be in Milk director Gus Van Sant’s new movie, Restless.
Wasikowska is the first person to be announced for the film, the plot of which is still being kept relatively secret, but which has been described as a complex tale of a teenage boy and girl who share a preoccupation with mortality. Wasikowska will be playing the female lead, while the director is still looking for her male counterpart.
Interestingly, THR reports that Wasikowska walked away from Robert Redford’s The Conspirator, about a woman who is accused of being part of the plot to assassinate Lincoln, to appear in Restless. It suggests that she has a lot of faith in Van Sant’s film if she prepared to pass on a part in such a high profile project as Redford’s movie.
Just to fill out the story for those who don’t know, Restless was written by Bryce Dallas Howard’s film school chum Jason Lew, and she brought it to her father, Ron, who bought the script and will be producing through his Imagine Entertainment banner. Restless is due to start filming this autumn.
