Poor old Wesley Snipes. First he signed a contract that meant for several year he was only allowed to make shitty straight-to-DVD movies that no one wanted to watch, and then he got convicted for income tax evasion, which certainly didn’t help his profile in Hollywood.
However it appears he’s now planning to get his career back on track with the announcement that he’ll be starring in Game Of Death for director Abel Ferrara.
The duo previously worked together on the 1990 movie King Of New York, and now Variety reports that they’re set to re-team for an action thriller about a politician’s bodyguard, to be played by Snipes, who must fend off five of the world’s top assassins. Zoe Bell and Rabert Davi will co-star in the movie.
Hopefully this will be the kick in the pants Snipes’ career needs, even if the plot synopsis does sound a bit generic. It’s also a far higher profile and more commercial feature for the maverick Bad Leiutenant director, who’s only been making documentaries and films that have slipped under the radar in recent years.
The movie starts filming next week, and will hopefully be released next year.
