So we can cover as many films as possible, we thought we’d give you these quick updates on some of today’s smaller film announcements…
Mandeville Films has bought to option to adapt the comicbook Cla$$war for the big screen. The Rob Williams comic, originally published in 2002-2004, is a political thriller that revolves around a super-soldier known as ‘The American’, who discovers the sinister truth of the government program that created him and is forced to take on the rest of his super-powered team. Mandeville was also behind the recent graphic novel adaption, Surrogates. The adapatation of Cla$$war is at such an early stage that no writer has yet been attached, although the company is hoping to start work on the movie very soon. (Source: Variety)
Three new people have joined the cast of the Disney film, Secretariat, about the Triple Crown winning horse and his owner, Penny Tweedy (Diane Lane). Former senator Fred Thompson has signed up to play master horse breeder and one-time horse-racing league president, Bull Hancock. The other new cast members as A.J. Michalka (The Lovely Bones), who will play Lane’s daughter, while Entourage star Kevin Connolly will be a sportswriter. (Source: THR)
Jim Field Smith has agreed to direct Good Luck, Anthony Belcher, based on George Kay’s script, which topped this year’s Brit List of the top unproduced screenplays by UK writers. James Corden will star in the film about an incredibly unlucky man whose fortunes suddenly change. It’s not Smith’s first dalliance with Kay, as they’ve also co-written the rural England drama, All Quiet On The Orient Express, and they co-own the Idiotlamp Production Company. Smith has also just finished filming She’s Out Of My league for Dreamworks. (Source: THR)
Although actor Danny Trejo has said production on Predators is due to begin next month, there’s been very little news on the cast. However it’s now being suggested that Walton Goggin from TV’s The Shield will star in the movie. There’ no news on what role he’ll be playing, although if Latino Review’s script review is correct, the film will see him as a human dumped on the Predators’ home planet, who must survive being hunted down by the fierce galactic warriors.
